If you want to get summer internship in various private institution or government organization first of all you have to contact with them.

When they allow you become their trainee then you have to write an application in your institution
to issue a training letter.

Next method to get an internship is through a referral from an employee or LinkedIn.
You can contact the HR by yourself through LinkedIn or through email to the respective company,
if the HR accepts your request he will inform you and you will get selected for internship.

Keep in mind that if you are in first or second year of your engineering, then you will face little hardship in getting an internship.
Generally Core companies do not hire first two year students for internships.
Most of the internships are given to third year or final year students.
You have to check your eligibility according to the company’s internship profile before applying.
Do not forget to get a referral from your seniors or any relatives working in a company this will help you in getting internship.
Different IITs provide research internships to 2nd year students.
